It was launched in 19 April 1975 from Kapustin Yar, a Russia rocket launch and development bite un Astrakhan Oblast. The rocket used to launched this satellite is Kosmos 3M.
To launch this satellite india has agreement with the Soviet Union. India allow USSR to use  India Port for tracking ships and launch vessels.

The Satellite had 26 sided polyhedron structure  with 1.4m (4.6ft) in diameter. All faces have solar cell except top and bottom.
The Satellite is set to earth's orbit precisely at 96.46min orbit had an apogee of 611 km which equals 380 mi and perigee of 568 km which equals 363 mi and inclination of 50.6 degree.
Data receiving centre was in Bangalore.
Real time data transmission rate is 256bit per sec. Its internal temperature limit ranged from 0 to 40 degree celsius.
A failure in the satellite's electrical power system halted experiments for four days. The spacecraft incurred a power fall which resulted in the ceasing of its functioning and transmission of information prior to its launch. Reason behind Failure of its power is still unknown.

The cost of this project is about Rs 3 core. It returns to  earth atmosphere on February 11, 1992  after 17years of its mission life.
This event was celebrated by Reserve Bank of India (RBI), image of the satellite was included on Rs 2 note in 1976 and 1997.

To commemorate the event both India And Russia released commemorative stamps.
